Related: danblee. I resolved the problem. Though the solution seems to be pretty lame. So I had to uninstall and re-install VMware workstation to make it run.
After reinstallation, I started getting internet with NAT adapter. But I'm still not sure why the service was not starting. This is the only solution that worked for me! And I have tried many from various online forums.
